Utrecht Holdings Seed Fund and Graduate Ventures invest in Visualise.bio

We are very proud to announce a co-investment in Visualise Bio, a spin-off of the UU, a life science-based technology company developing automated sample preparation for high-resolution 3D microscopy.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – Utrecht Holdings Seed Fund and Graduate Ventures invest in Visualise.bio, a life science technology company developing automated sample preparation for high-resolution 3D microscopy.

The company aims to make super-resolution imaging, typically available through highly priced microscope setups, such as electron microscopy, available to a broad customer base.

Visualise.bio develops GelCast, a robotic platform that automates and standardizes the expansion microscopy (ExM) workflow. Together with GelMap, an integrated fluorescent nanoscale sample grid developed at Utrecht University, and GelPlate, a dedicated well plate for manual ExM, these technologies enable super-resolution imaging on standard light microscopes.

“Together with secured grant funding, this investment will help to accelerate product development and commercialization, bringing reliable nanoscale imaging to more laboratories worldwide” said Floris van der Staaij, CEO. “Future capabilities enable applications in advanced biological models such as organoids or tissue slices, as well as high-resolution cellular and molecular research or large-scale mapping efforts like connectomics”.

“Our investment in Visualise.bio underlines our mission of creating impact with scientific research”, said Timo Koopmans, Investment Manager at Utrecht Holdings Seed Fund. “We believe that their efforts to make super-resolution accessible to more laboratories will accelerate research and enable better diagnostics”.

“Expansion microscopy has enormous potential, especially when it becomes accessible to more laboratories”, said Eva Post, Head of Pre-Seed Fund at Graduate Ventures. “We believe an innovation like this needs to read the market, that is why we are investing”.
